Eternal Sonata was amazing. Everyone says the graphics are spectacular, but in my personal opinion, they weren't that great. It's more about the ambiance of the game, if that makes any sense. It's all supposed to be the dream of Chopin, the famous composer, and so the music and the colors are very artistically done. The design of the characters is pretty, too. The storyline is interesting for an RPG, and it gives you more than one P.O.V. so things don't become too straight forward. It's a unique visual/auditory experience.
On the negative side, it's not action packed. It's got a lot of scenes that are way longer than they need to be - the intro is slow to the point of being ridiculous. You spend like ten minutes staring at a field of swaying grass while a narrator talks about randomness. You aren't going to run in terror from the bosses--they just aren't that scary.
Basically, it's nothing intricate like Lost Odyssey, it's not mind-numbingly expansive like Oblivion, and it doesn't have sharp, gorgeous graphics like Assasin's Creed, but it is different and very fun to play. Personally, I play Condemned for awhile, get scared and jumpy, and play Eternal Sonata to mellow out some, lol.
If I had to pick a similar game, I'd say FF-X. If you liked FF-X, you'd probably like Eternal Sonata.
