Title of the Anime: Prince of Tennis a.k.a. Teni Puri

Anime Genre:
School Life, Sports

How many episodes: 178 Episodes, 1 movie, 3 OVAs

Your Ranking:
Neutral/Recommend

The Good:
This anime has really likeable characters - there's someone for everyone. There are many story arcs, usually focused around a tournament that the characters are attempting to win. Each tournament arc reveals more and more about the guys on all the different school teams, and there are very few characters that are simply evil or simply good. It's a fun anime that makes you root for the team you like to win, and the episodes in between arcs (usually focusing on subjects other than tennis matches, or featuring the characters in chibi form doing all sorts of zany things) are always hilarious. Despite it being so massive, the tennis didn't get repetitive until the very end. I thought Takashi Konomi did a good job of keeping the matches fresh and interesting for the first 80 episodes or so. There aren't a lot of unnecessary pauses, either. You won't be waiting twenty minutes for Ryoma to hit the ball.
Also, there's a pretty big fan community for Prince of Tennis. There's lots of fanfiction and fanart, and it makes for easy cosplay!

The Bad:
It's long. Really, really long. It will also make you want to try playing tennis, with embarassing results. The main character (in my opinion) is also the least interesting. The plot is definately repetitive. If you aren't a tennis fan, it might be hard to stay interested. In fact, if you aren't a sports fan in general, pass on this one. It's all about getting hyped up for your team to win, and if watching sports doesn't get that kind of reaction from you, this will be a long, boring, repetitive anime with not much to look forward to. In addition, the first couple episodes are overwhelming in the sense that there are a ton of characters to keep straight. When they start introducing all the different teams, you feel certain for awhile you aren't ever going to get them straight. Stick out the confusion, though, and you'll figure it out.
